Miami Memory

Alex Cameron & Jemimi Kirke |   2019   |   Co-Stylist with Elyse Lightner Foote

Miami Memory is a story about how we audition in the present for our future selves to enjoy in retrospect. In that way, tender memories that we share together are captured in thought and stored with the same electricity that keeps our heart beating,” Cameron said in a press release. “It's a gift for my girlfriend Jemima, and it is dedicated to the artist Greer Lankton and her partner Paul Monroe. I am lucky to have learned that a group of people can be a shining light.”

In 2019, I had the incredible opportunity to style the music video for Alex Cameron’s Miami Memory, featuring his then-girlfriend Jemima Jo Kirke. This shoot was special not only because of Alex and Jemima’s artistic vision, but also because I was collaborating with one of my most talented and closest friends, Elyse Lightner Foote. Stylistically, our distinct personal aesthetics complement each others, which can be felt in the visual execution of each look.

Our sourcing process pulled from modern lines like Rosie Assoulin to archival vintage and small Etsy designers alike in order to create wardrobe that enhanced the emotional depth and world-building of the characters. I believe we perfectly captured the eclectic, eccentric cool aura that the video’s voyeuristic love story demanded. The couple’s inspiration drew heavily from the surreal art of Greer Lankton, whose avant-garde creations can be seen as credits roll.

I have always told stories, since I was a kid. It’s what I would do. And I was always driven to amplify personal stories. Always, it’s just my nature.

Publications like The FADER highlighted how the video explored the chaotic yet romantic world of the couple, with Cameron calling it a “gift” to Kirke, inspired by love and artistic vision. Exactly as they intended, Alex and Jemima were performing for both a metaphorical and very real parasocial audience through the creation of this music video. This experience sparked my passion for more editorial, design-driven styling projects and solidified my belief in the power of fashion to drive narrative storytelling.

I really do want to tell effective stories that make people feel something. That’s the goal.
